TO BE AN ARTIST IS TO FREE YOUR MIND, TO HAVE A MENTAL ILLNESS IS TO HAVE IT CAGED OVER AND OVER AGAIN.

It is a highly detailed piece about achieving freedom of thought, which was the main aim of surrealism. My life is a constant battle between my anxiety caging my mind and my desire to free it through art. A whirlwind of previous paintings made during the pandemic is created. My self-portrait floating above it looks forward in exhaustion, imagery showing this dichotomy of the mind. My unconscious spills out like soup as it is impossible for it to remain contained if I am to become the artist and person I want to be. It is a perfect reminder to you to work towards a freer mind and to embrace who you are.
